First acquisition in Zocdoc’s nearly 20-year history marks a continued investment in healthcare access infrastructure as the company expands beyond its marketplace to power access to care everywhere patients search

NEW YORK, NY — October 14, 2026 — Zocdoc, the healthcare access infrastructure that connects patients to great care, today announced it has acquired Sohar Health, a healthcare technology company that automates insurance benefits eligibility checks, making it easier to find and verify patients’ coverage. The transaction, which closed on October 2nd, 2026, marks the first acquisition in Zocdoc’s nearly 20-year history. As Zocdoc expands its healthcare access infrastructure, it is investing in scaling capabilities that make the path to care simpler for patients and providers, including insurance verification.
Zocdoc knows the strength of Sohar’s differentiated technology and team firsthand, as this acquisition builds on an existing relationship. The two companies have worked closely together since 2025, when Zocdoc selected Sohar as its insurance technology partner after evaluating many other solutions on the market. Sohar stood out, particularly in its ability to find patients’ coverage with minimal inputs. Since then, Sohar’s technology and expertise have become an important part of Zocdoc’s work to make insurance easier to navigate for patients and providers alike.
This acquisition comes at a moment when Zocdoc is investing in scaling its reach. Earlier this month, the company announced a significant expansion with the launch of Zocdoc’s Care Access Network, opening the infrastructure it built for its marketplace over nearly two decades to power access to care everywhere patients search.
Partners including Amazon Health AI, Gemini, Yelp, Healthgrades and Blue Shield of California can connect their users to real-time availability and booking with more than 200,000 providers across 200+ specialties and 10,000+ insurance plans, directly on their properties — powered by Zocdoc. The Sohar acquisition builds on that expansion, adding insurance technology to make coverage verification more seamless at scale, both on Zocdoc and across its partner network.
“As we build the healthcare access infrastructure that powers care everywhere patients search, we are investing deeply in making the experience of finding and booking care more seamless for more patients at scale,” said Oliver Kharraz, MD, founder and CEO of Zocdoc. “We know the Sohar technology and team well, and we share a desire to tackle complex, systemic problems to remove the barriers that stand between patients and their care. We are confident that bringing Sohar’s platform and expertise into Zocdoc will make insurance easier to navigate for patients and their providers when it matters most: at the moment of booking.”
Insurance shapes which providers patients can see, what care is covered and what they will pay. Getting that information right helps patients confidently choose and book care, while helping providers reduce friction and administrative work. But deciphering coverage is harder than it should be. Insurance information is fragmented and complex, and determining coverage, benefits and network status can require significant work for patients and providers alike. Half of insured adults say they struggle to understand at least one aspect of their health insurance, according to KFF.
Sohar makes that process simpler. Instead of requiring patients to enter detailed insurance information, its technology can find coverage using basic information like a patient’s name and date of birth. From there, Sohar can verify benefits and determine whether a provider is in-network. Sohar has been Zocdoc’s insurance technology partner since 2025, supporting insurance discovery and verification for patients and providers. Since then, millions of patients have verified their coverage when searching for care with Zocdoc.
“As a physician, it has always baffled me that at the moment people need care most, they have to face a gauntlet just to understand whether their insurance will cover it,” said Ashish Mandavia, MD, co-founder and CEO of Sohar Health. “Whether someone is navigating a health crisis or booking routine appointments, they should be able to access care without unnecessary friction. We built Sohar to help create that experience, and we can now bring it to millions more patients with Zocdoc.”
“Sohar has always been a mission-driven company focused on making it easier for people to access care, and we found that same conviction in Zocdoc,” said Lucas Gordon, co-founder and CTO of Sohar Health. “We’ve been working toward the same goal from different parts of the healthcare experience. Joining Zocdoc gives us the opportunity to bring what we’ve built to far more patients and providers and pursue that mission at a much greater scale.”
Sohar’s platform will operate without disruption, keeping its existing name, products and customer relationships, while continuing to build out their leading insurance capabilities and grow their business. Zocdoc’s users and customers will continue to benefit from Sohar’s technology, as they do today.
Two companies that already know they work well together now have the opportunity to do more together: building stronger healthcare access infrastructure and making it easier for patients and their providers to navigate care.
Zocdoc is the healthcare access infrastructure that connects patients to great care. By powering access to care everywhere patients search, Zocdoc helps them move from being stuck to being seen. Each month, millions of patients find and book appointments with providers, powered by Zocdoc—on the company’s website and app, and across AI platforms, online search, insurance directories, providers’ websites, practice phone lines, and more—with the typical appointment happening within 24 to 72 hours from booking.
With nearly two decades of experience unifying healthcare’s fragmentation, Zocdoc is uniquely positioned to power access across insurance plans, PMS and EHR systems, specialties, visit types, and provider organizations of every size. By fixing healthcare at the start, Zocdoc empowers patients to get the care they need, when they need it, while helping providers be bookable everywhere patients search.
